How long does Adderall stay in your system (urine drug test)?

The half life of Adderall is approximately 10 hours. This means that every 10 hours, half of the previous amount of Adderall in the body leaves your body.

For example, if you took 10mg of Adderall at 12AM (midnight), at 10AM 5mg of Adderall will be left in your body. At 8PM, 2.5mg will be left, and so forth until there is 0mg left in your body. As a guide it takes approximately 5.5 half lives for a drug to be out of your system.

For Adderall then it would take just over 2 days for a dose to be out of your system. (5.5 x 10 = 55 hours – which is just over 2 days). You should allow for longer (7 days) if you have taken Adderall frequently and at high doses.

Qelbree vs Adderall: What’s the difference between them?

Overview

Qelbree (viloxazine ER) and Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts) are both oral medications used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults and children. Qelbree is used in adults and children 6 years of age and older, while Adderall is used in people 3 years and older.

  • The main differences are that Qelbree is a long-acting, once daily nonstimulant medicine and is not classified as a federally controlled substance. It is less likely to cause trouble with sleeping or lead to abuse. In studies, Qelbree has not been shown to lead to withdrawal symptoms or dependence.
  • Adderall is a short-acting stimulant medication given once or twice a day, and is a C-II controlled substance with the potential for misuse, drug dependence, and illicit distribution to others. The amphetamines in Adderall are dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate.

Common side effects that Qelbree and Adderall share include upset stomach (nausea, vomiting, stomach ache) and decreased appetite. Qelbree is more likely to cause drowsiness and headache, while Adderall may be more likely to cause trouble sleeping, weight loss or drug abuse or diversion. Buy Qelbree in Phoenix, Arizona Online

Other differences:

  • Dosing: Qelbree is given once per day as an oral capsule, and Adderall is usually given 1 to 3 times a day as an oral tablet. Adderall XR is available as a once-daily option.
  • Adderall is also approved by the FDA to treat the sleep disorder narcolepsy in adults and children 6 years and older. Other brand names for mixed salts of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine include Adderall XR (a long-acting form) and Mydayis. Qelbree is only approved for ADHD.

Adderall is available as a generic product in the US, which may help save you money. Qelbree is the more expensive product and does not have an approved generic option at this time.

Adderall vs Vyvanse: Key Differences,Effectiveness, and Cost Comparison

The primary difference between Adderall and Vyvanse lies in their composition: Adderall contains a mixture of four different amphetamine salts, while Vyvanse contains only one type of amphetamine salt called lisdexamfetamine. Buy Vyvanse in Scotland Online

Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse) is a prodrug that converts into dexamphetamine once absorbed by the body. Adderall’s four amphetamine salts include dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate.

Vyvanse may have lower abuse potential compared to Adderall, though no direct head-to-head studies have definitively compared their abuse risk. One small study (n=24, Dolder et al) comparing Vyvanse to d-amphetamine (an Adderall component) found similar pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, with lisdexamfetamine likely carrying similar oral abuse risk as d-amphetamine.

Since both medications contain amphetamines, their mechanisms of action are comparable, and they work in a similar way. Clinical studies demonstrate that Vyvanse is equally effective as Adderall for ADHD treatment, with similar side effect profiles. Vyvanse for sale in Ontario, Canada Online

The dependence risk (likelihood of becoming dependent or addicted) appears similar for both Adderall and Vyvanse.

What’s in Adderall and Vyvanse?

Adderall is a brand-name combination drug containing four different amphetamine types (dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate). These are commonly referred to as mixed amphetamine salts or MAS.

Vyvanse is the brand name for lisdexamfetamine. Once lisdexamfetamine enters the body, it converts into dextroamphetamine (its active form) upon contact with red blood cells.

Both Adderall and Vyvanse contain amphetamines and work similarly by blocking the reuptake of two neurotransmitters (chemical messengers between nerves). These neurotransmitters are norepinephrine and dopamine. By preventing their reuptake, levels of these chemicals increase between nerve connections, helping reduce inattention and hyperactivity symptoms in children and adults with ADHD. Direct studies Comparing Adderall vs Vyvanse

Few studies have directly compared Adderall to Vyvanse. One study (Biederman et al) examined both drugs’ effects on classroom behavior in children with ADHD, finding both equally effective at improving attention span, rule-following, and peer/adult interactions. Both were well-tolerated with no significant side effect differences.

Similar results appeared in an 18-adult ADHD trial (Martin et al). Adderall took approximately two hours to become effective versus three hours for Vyvanse, with both drugs’ effects lasting roughly 16 hours.

Another study (Dolder et al) found similarities in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, but noted about an hour lag time for d-amphetamine (an Adderall component).

Numerous other studies have compared Adderall or Vyvanse to a placebo or other ADHD medications, confirming that both improve various ADHD symptoms. Researchers found no superior effectiveness between drug types, and side effects like decreased appetite, insomnia, and abdominal symptoms were common but similar across different formulations. However, most ADHD trials last under six months, are poorly documented, and fail to include important social outcomes like parental stress and quality of life measures.

How should Adderall make you feel, with or without ADHD?

Adderall is a stimulant medication that contains dextroamphetamine and amphetamine. It is FDA approved to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. People taking Adderall for ADHD typically notice improved focus and attention and reduced impulsivity. In people without ADHD, it can also enhance focus, alertness, and energy levels.

Adderall increases chemicals in the brain called dopamine and norepinephrine. These effects can lead to many changes in the body, such as loss of appetite and extended wakefulness.

Do not take Adderall without a prescription from a healthcare professional. In people with and without ADHD, it can cause a large range of side effects.

What to Expect: Hour-by-Hour Timeline

For People WITH ADHD:

  • 0-30 minutes: Gradual onset of calming effects, racing thoughts begin to slow
  • 30-90 minutes: Peak focus arrives, feeling of mental clarity and organization
  • 2-4 hours: Sustained attention span, reduced impulsivity, emotional regulation improves
  • 4-6 hours: Effects gradually diminish, return to baseline without significant crash

For People WITHOUT ADHD:

  • 0-30 minutes: Initial energy surge, heightened alertness begins
  • 30-90 minutes: Peak stimulation, possible euphoria or jitteriness
  • 2-4 hours: Artificial focus that may feel forced or tunnel-like
  • 4-6 hours: Energy crash, fatigue, and potential mood drop as effects wear off

How do I know if Adderall is working?

You should start to notice the effects of Adderall within 1 hour of taking a dose. It should improve your ability to concentrate and boost your energy levels. If you have ADHD, stimulant medications like Adderall can normalize your attention span and help you listen better. The increase in dopamine in the brain can cause some people to feel euphoria (intense excitement or happiness), which can happen in people with or without ADHD.

What are side effects of Adderall?

Adderall affects many different parts of the body. By increasing norepinephrine, it can increase blood pressure and blood flow. As a result of these changes, Adderall can indirectly cause headaches and trouble sleeping. In people treating narcolepsy, promoting wakefulness is a helpful side effect. If you are taking Adderall for ADHD, it is recommended to take it in the morning so it affects your sleep less at night.

Adderall is a controlled substance because it has a risk of misuse, addiction, and dependence. Only take the amount prescribed to you by your healthcare provider, and check in with them regularly to see if you still need to take the medication.

Other side effects people taking Adderall have reported include:

  • Fast heart rate
  • Low appetite
  • Dry mouth
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Mood swings
  • Rash

Rarely, Adderall can cause serious heart and behavior problems. There have also been reports of seizures, blood circulation problems, and serotonin syndrome in people taking this medication. Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider so they can make sure this medication is safe for you.

These are not all possible side effects from taking Adderall. Review side effects you might expect with your healthcare provider.

.

How long does Adderall last in your system?

When taken as prescribed, the effects of Adderall (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) last for about 4 to 6 hours. The effects of Adderall XR last for up to 12 hours because this form of Adderall has been designed to release its contents slowly, over a longer period of time (this is called a sustained release preparation).

Some medications can interact with Adderall and affect how much is absorbed or how quickly or slowly it is excreted, which can change the length of time Adderall lasts for in your body.

Medications that can decrease the absorption of Adderall, lowering blood levels, and decreasing the length of time it lasts for in the body include:

  • Fruit juices, such as orange juice or cranberry juice
  • Medications that increase the acidity of the stomach contents, such as guanethidine and reserpine
  • Vitamin C supplements (also called ascorbic acid).

In addition, KPhos and other urinary acidifiers, or substances such as ammonium chloride or sodium acid phosphate can increase the excretion of Adderall by making the urine more acidic, which also lowers blood levels of Adderall, decreasing the length of time it lasts for in the body.

Other medications or substances, such as those that make the stomach contents more alkaline (less acidic), can increase the absorption of Adderall, which may or may not have an effect on how long it lasts for in the body. Modified release forms of Adderall, such as Adderall XR are more likely to be affected because it will cause the modified release coating to disintegrate faster than what would be expected in the normal stomach environment. Medications that can increase the absorption of Adderall, and increase blood levels of Adderall include:

  • Gastrointestinal alkalinizing agents, such as sodium bicarbonate
  • Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), such as omeprazole or pantoprazole.

In addition, urinary alkalinizing agents (such as acetazolamide and some thiazides) can decrease the excretion of Adderall by making the urine more alkaline, which can increase blood levels of Adderall and increase the length of time it lasts for in the body. Other medications that can prolong the effect of Adderall include monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or medications which have MAOI-like activity, such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, procarbazine, selegiline, and tranylcypromine which slow the metabolism of Adderall.

Modafinil (Provigil) vs Adderall: What’s the difference?

Modafinil (Provigil) and Adderall seem like similar drugs – they are both used in the treatment of narcolepsy and covertly as study aids. But is Modafinil more effective and less addictive than Adderall?

Modafinil and Adderall are both classified as CNS stimulants but have different chemical structures, which means there are differences in their addiction potential and risk of side effects. Buy Modafinil in Sacramento, California Online

  • Modafinil and Adderall both have stimulant-type effects, but modafinil is a much milder stimulant than Adderall.
  • Modafinil improves wakefulness and decision making but does not make you any smarter.
  • Adderall is also much more likely than modafinil to cause addiction and dependence and withdrawal symptoms on discontinuation, in addition to more side effects, without improving IQ.
  • Neither drug should be taken with alcohol and both have the potential to adversely affect the heart.

Differences in Structure and Uses, Similarities in Effects

Modafinil

Modafinil (Provigil) has a unique structure and is not as stimulating as Adderall, but it does have stimulant-like effects and improves alertness, enhances thinking and perception, in addition to helping to keep people awake. Buy Provigil in Wales Online

Experts aren’t exactly sure how it works, although they have elucidated that it enhances several chemicals and neurotransmitters in the brain including dopamine, serotonin, histamine, glutamate, and GABA.

Although studies have not shown any significant withdrawal effects, any drug that provides stimulant effects to the brain enforces drug taking to some extent and carries the potential for dependence which could lead to withdrawal symptoms.

Anecdotally people have reported significantly reduced energy, lack of motivation, and depression following discontinuation of Provigil. Modafinil should always be tapered on drug discontinuation if it has been used for a long period of time.

Modafinil was first approved by the FDA in 1998 to treat narcolepsy, and is also used to treat excessive sleepiness caused by obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or shift work.

  • Off-label it has been used to help people with Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis stay alert, and has been favored by students, executives, and the military as a way to combat sleep deprivation and fatigue.
  • Even though it is not approved for ADHD, it is often used and at least one study has suggested it helps reduce symptoms of impulsivity in those with ADHD.

Adderall

Adderall is the brand (trade) name for a combination tablet containing amphetamine and dextroamphetamine (often called mixed amphetamine salts). Adderall is usually prescribed to treat people with narcolepsy or ADHD.

Adderall has also become one of the more popular illicit “study-aids” or party drugs with almost 7.5% of high school seniors and one-third of college undergraduates reportedly misusing the drug.

Adderall is a stimulant that increases the concentration of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. Its exact mechanism of action in ADHD or narcolepsy is not known. Adderall was first approved for ADHD in 1996 and for narcolepsy in 1998.

Which has the most side effects?

Side effects experienced with modafinil are generally mild compared to those reported with Adderall, although modafinil can significantly increase heart rate and blood pressure and should not be taken by people with a history of certain heart or heart valve problems (such as mitral valve prolapse or left ventricular hypertrophy).

  • Over one-third of people who take modafinil report headache as a side effect, with nausea being the next most common complaint (11% of people taking modafinil).
  • Other side effects such as rhinitis, nervousness and anxiety, back pain, insomnia, and gastrointestinal complaints (such as diarrhea, indigestion) were reported by less than 10% of clinical trial participants.

Modafinil can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives – both estrogen and progestogen-containing oral and implantable products, by interfering with the enzymes that convert the hormones into their active form.

Rarely, life-threatening rashes have occurred with modafinil, including Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DRESS). Most reactions are probably allergy related.

Although modafinil has been around for over 20 years, experts are not sure how long-term use affects the brain. Some are concerned about chronic sleep deprivation, future ability to sleep, increased antisocial tendencies and a suppressing of emotions, as well as problems coming off the drug.

Adderall tends to have a broader range of side effects; some people will experience certain side effects more severely than others. The most common side effects include loss of appetite (36%), dry mouth (35%), short-lived blood pressure elevations (up to 35%), insomnia (up to 27%), headache (up to 26%) and abdominal pain. Disturbances in sexual function, a slowing of the growth rate in children, fast heart rate, and nervousness are also commonly reported.

Some people are overly sensitive to stimulants and develop confused thought processes, regardless of what dosage they take. Psychiatric side effects reported with Adderall include hearing voices, becoming suspicious for no reason, or becoming manic. Adderall can also exacerbate symptoms in people already suffering the effects of psychotic disorder or bipolar illness.

It should also not be used by people with glaucoma, an overactive thyroid, heart disease or moderate to severe high blood pressure, or a history of drug or alcohol addiction. One of the main problems with Adderall is that it may cause dependence and tolerance and be subject to abuse. If Adderall is suddenly stopped, it may cause a withdrawal syndrome (symptoms include extreme tiredness, depression, and sleep disturbances).

Modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance and Adderall is a schedule II controlled substance – reflecting its higher propensity for abuse and dependence.

Focalin vs Adderall: What’s the difference?

Focalin and Adderall are both used for ADHD, but is one more effective than the other?

Focalin contains dexmethylphenidate whereas Adderall contains a mixture of amphetamine salts (MAS). Both have a high potential for abuse and dependence, although the risk may be perceived as higher with Adderall because it is more popular; however, this does not mean Focalin is less likely to cause tolerance or dependence. Buy Focalin in Edmonton Online

Adderall IR has more dosage options than Focalin IR, although Focalin IR is usually cheaper. Focalin XR has more dosage options than Adderall XR, although Adderall XR is usually cheaper.

What is Dexmethylphenidate?

Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin) is a man-made stimulant that is derived from methylphenidate (which is marketed under brand names such as Ritalin, Concerta, Metadate, and others). Dexmethylphenidate is the more active part of methylphenidate, which is why Focalin is considered twice as strong, on a mg for mg basis, as drugs such as Ritalin and Concerta. Focalin was first approved in 2001, although an extended-release form was not approved until 2005.

What is in Adderall?

The mixed amphetamine salts contained in Adderall are dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate; often abbreviated to 75% dextroamphetamine + 25% levoamphetamine. Adderall is also a man-made stimulant and was first approved in 1996. Both Focalin and Adderall are approved to treat ADHD, although Adderall is also approved to treat narcolepsy.

How do Focalin and Adderall work in ADHD?

Although Focalin is not an amphetamine and has a different mechanism of action to Adderall, it bears some structural resemblance to amphetamines and both drugs are thought to work in ADHD by increasing the concentration of two neurotransmitters (dopamine and norepinephrine) in the brain.

Formulations

Immediate-release (IR) forms of Focalin have a duration of effect of 4 to 6 hours, similar to that of Adderall IR. Extended-release (XR) forms of Focalin provide a sustained psychostimulant effect for up to 12 hours, similar to that of Adderall XR. Focalin IR has only three dosage options (2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg) compared to seven for Adderall IR (5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, and 30 mg), which may make Adderall IR easier for titrating. Focalin XR has more dosage options than Adderall XR. Immediate-release forms of Focalin are generally cheaper than immediate-release forms of Adderall; however, brand-name Adderall XR is usually cheaper than Focalin XR. Both Focalin and Adderall are available as generics.

Side Effects

Although neither Focalin XR capsules nor Adderall XR capsules should be chewed or crushed, for people who have difficulty swallowing the capsules may be opened and the contents sprinkled on apple sauce and swallowed straight away. Both Focalin and Adderall may cause dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, stomach aches and a decrease in appetite leading to weight loss. Adderall may also cause diarrhea, dry mouth, fever, headache, irritability, nausea and vomiting. Subjective, anecdotal reports have suggested that Focalin may have a cleaner effect than Adderall and produce less jitters. Side effects of both drugs are more likely at higher dosages.

Potential For Abuse

Both Focalin and Adderall are habit-forming and have a high potential for abuse and are classified as “Schedule II” controlled-substances. It is not uncommon for people who have taken either Focalin or Adderall for extended periods of time to become psychologically dependent on them. Tolerance may also develop – this when an increasing dose is needed in order to achieve the same reduction in symptoms. Both can lead to withdrawal symptoms on discontinuation. Studies have not directly compared the two drugs for abuse or dependence potential; however, it is likely to be similar and high. Adderall tends to be more popular than Focalin among college students who misuse the drug for studying, passing tests, and even weight loss (see Adderall for Study: Does it Really Make You Smarter?)

Comparative Effectiveness

Studies have shown that Focalin and Adderall are both more effective in ADHD than a placebo (pretend) tablet but there have been few trials directly comparing the two drugs. Those that do suggest that Focalin and Adderall are nearly identical in terms of potency (meaning 5mg Focalin IR is approximately equivalent to 5mg Adderall IR and 10mg of Focalin XR approximately equals 10mg Adderall XR). However, not everybody responds equally to either Focalin or Adderall. In one study involving 56 children, 14.3% only responded to dexmethylphenidate XR (Focalin XR) and 12.5% only responded to mixed amphetamine salts XR (Adderall XR). This means that if one treatment is ineffective or intolerable it is appropriate to try another before giving up on stimulant treatment. Behavioral therapy is still recommended as the first treatment to try before medication in young children with ADHD.

Focalin and Adderall appear equally effective for ADHD and have a similar potency on a mg per mg basis. Side effects are similar.

Studies have shown that individual responses to ADHD medications varies, and up to 15% of people have a response to one drug but not to another. Therefore it is worthwhile trying a different type of ADHD medication if one treatment is found to be ineffective.

How long does Adderall withdrawal last?

It is difficult to say exactly how long Adderall withdrawal lasts because it depends on the person and the process is different for everyone. Some people’s withdrawal symptoms may resolve in as little as 5 days, others may still be experiencing symptoms 4 weeks later or even longer. People who have taken Adderall for a long time at a high dose should expect withdrawal symptoms to last longer, maybe up to several months.

The length of time it takes somebody to get recover from Adderall withdrawal can also depend on whether they used regular Adderall or Adderall XR. People who have used regular Adderall will start feeling withdrawal symptoms sooner than those who have used Adderall XR. Recovery centers have also found withdrawal from Adderall XR tends to last longer, than that from regular Adderall because it does take longer for the body to detox.

Adderall Withdrawal Timeline

This timeline gives you a brief idea of what symptoms to expect depending on how long it has been since you stopped taking Adderall.

6 to 36 hours after stopping Adderall
Fatigue, tiredness, a low mood, and feeling a bit down or depressed are the most common initial withdrawal symptoms to appear after your last dose of Adderall. These may come on gradually, starting a few hours after your last dose.

3 to 5 days after stopping Adderall
Symptoms are at their most intense during this time frame. You may feel extremely tired, very depressed, and irritable. Nightmares and headaches may also occur.

5 to 7 days after stopping Adderall
Usually, after about 5 days withdrawal symptoms start to fade and you should start to feel better, although you will probably still feel moody, lack motivation, and find it difficult to do your usual daily activities. You may still feel depressed, although it shouldn’t be as bad as during days 3 to 5.

3 to 4 weeks plus after stopping Adderall
Rarely, in some people, withdrawal symptoms persist for weeks or months after their last dose. This is more common in those with a high tolerance who have been using Adderall for over a year.

How do you get rid of Adderall tongue?

Adderall tongue is a common side effect of Adderall that can detrimentally and seriously affect a person’s quality of life. To help relieve Adderall tongue:

  • Stay well-hydrated. Adderall and other ADHD medications can cause dehydration, so you need to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of fluid per day
  • Take frequent sips of water rather than drinking a whole glass of water at once
  • Use artificial saliva products (such as sprays or lozenges) – these can help moisten the tissue and last longer than water. There are many different brands of these available over the counter at drug stores and they can be used multiple times a day
  • Chew sugar-free gum or suck on sugar-free candy – these contains xylitol which increases salivary flow and can help prevent dental decay. Avoid sucking candy that contains sugar because this will increase your risk of dental decay
  • Use toothpaste that contains fluoride and talk to your dentist about applying fluoride regularly. This will help strengthen enamel and protect your teeth from bacteria in your mouth
  • Clean your teeth twice a day. Use an interdental brush to get in between the gaps in your teeth. Choose alcohol-free mouthwashes. Apply lip balm to your lips.
  • Use a tongue scrapper if there is a coating on your tongue. Gently scrape your tongue from the back to the front.
  • Avoid spicy or acidic foods because these can irritate the mouth and cause further dryness
  • Limit the amount of caffeine you drink in coffee, tea, soda, and energy beverages
  • Don’t smoke cigarettes, vape, or chew tobacco products
  • Put a humidifier in your room, especially if you are prone to sleeping with your mouth open
  • Try to breathe through your nose instead of your mouth.

People who have a constantly dry mouth, including those with Adderall tongue, are at increased risk of gum disease and dental decay from the lack of saliva in their mouth. Tell your doctor that you are experiencing Adderall tongue and ask them to check your vitamin B12, vitamin D, and calcium levels because sometimes these can also contribute to dry mouth. Your doctor may consider switching you to a different ADHD medication, although most other ADHD treatments will also cause a dry mouth
